Biography
Valérie Chane Tef is an artist from Réunion Island — a pianist, singer and composer — a graduate of the Conservatoire national de Bordeaux and of ethnomusicology. A prominent f igure on the international jazz scene, she has developed a singular musical identity where maloya, traditional Creole songs, Afro-Caribbean rhythms and the codes of jazz come together. This rich musical background has enabled Valérie to develop an authentic artistic signature, able to bridge memory, identity and cultural diversity.
Valérie has released four albums and three EPs, acclaimed by na tional and international critics. Released on the Aztec Musiques label, her latest album, Nout' Souk (2022), was featured in playlists on RFI, FIP, France Inter, France Musique and France Outre-mer.
Valérie’s collaborations with emblematic figures such as Mino Cinélu (Miles Davis’s percussionist), Thierry Fanfant, Omar Lye Fook, Joby Valente, Diana Baroni, Dédé Saint-Prix, Géraldine Laurent, In or Sotolongo, Adriano Dos Santos and Lass have enriched her musical world, reflecting her ability to engage with a wide range of cultures while preserving her authenticity.
